Jakarta Hosts International Marathon with Record Participation

Tangerang- On Sunday, January 19, Jakarta hosted the 2025 International Marathon, drawing more than 20,000 runners from 30 countries in the largest turnout since the event was established.

The marathon took place across key streets in central Jakarta, starting at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium before looping through Sudirman and Thamrin avenues. Participants included professional athletes, running communities, and amateur enthusiasts. The event was organized by the Jakarta provincial government in cooperation with the National Sports Committee.

Officials said the marathon aims to promote healthy lifestyles and position Jakarta as a regional sports tourism destination. Security officers and medical teams were stationed along the route to assist participants, while several main roads were temporarily closed to ensure safety. Residents gathered along the sidewalks to cheer runners, creating a festive atmosphere throughout the city.

The organizers announced that the International Marathon will return next year with an expanded route and additional categories. Many participants expressed hope that the event would continue encouraging more Indonesians to embrace fitness and outdoor sports.
